First Snow

We got our first snow yesterday. The kids rushed to dress and get their snow clothes on in case it didn't last. It continued to snow lightly until about noon.

Aren't they cute? They had a blast but this morning it was melting fast.

Funky Fresh

Since we've been on sick duty, we've been watching a lot of television.

One of the best new cartoons we like is:

HI HI Puffy AmiYumi

It's about a Japanese Rock Band.

We need the soundtrack now.

Prognosis Positive

We were able to get into the Dr. this morning and the tests all confirm.

Chloe has Scarlet Fever.

What is scarlet fever? Well, in a nut shell, it's a REALLY bad strep throat with an all over body rash. Scarlet fever sounds so impressive though.

The saddest part, the Doctor said it is the worst case of strep throat she's ever seen. She's been in practice for almost 15 yrs.

YEAH, we win the crappy parents award.

Great way to start the new year.

And what did you get for Christmas?

Well, we got scarlett fever!

Actually Chloe did, we're still waiting to find out if we're infected too. It started Christmas eve. She woke up with a REALLY sore throat. I figured it was from the heat being on all night and suggested she suck on a life saver. It got a bit better but not much. By night she was having a hard time swallowing. She was pretty sick all day Sat.. And today she broke out in a rash.

Since she really can't get in to the Doctor till tomorrow(if we can even get in tomorrow) she is pretty much sick on the couch.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

HAPPY HOLIDAY

Just a note to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season.

In thinking back over past holidays, I thought of all the great gifts I had given and received. I also remembered all the weird gifts I've given and received.

What have your wacky gifts included?

This year I actually gave meat to someone as a gift.

Santa Sighting

This is a true story. None of the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

I was at the grocery store yesterday picking up a tomato to supplement our delicious dinner of tacos. It was about 12:30 and the lunch rush was on. I looked up and one check out stand over was Santa Flippin' Claus. He's much bigger in real life...like 6'3". I never have my camera on me but I just happened to have it in my purse. I go to pull it out and the batteries go flying out of it. Not to be detered, I snatch them up and stick them back in. We're in business...well, I get a bead on the Claus man and push the "take picture now" button. The lense starts spazing out and it won't focus. By this time the folks behind me in line are not full of the Christmas spirit if you know what I mean.

I give up after like 4 tries because the camera is possesed. Then I get to thinking,"This must be the REAL Santa and like vampires, you can't get a picture of him." (think about it...what's with the red suit..I say it's to hide blood stains)
Totally bummed I pay for my out of season tomato and head out to the car where the kids are safely locked inside, and proceed to relay the sighting of Santa. I buckle up and hear some a**hole start up a really loud motorcycle. Then he freakin' guns it in the parking lot. HBomb thinks it's cool and of course I start looking for the guy to give him an evil elf look.

You're not going to believe it but it was SANTA ON A CHERRY RED HARLEY!!!

I hand Chloe the camera and tell her to get it ready so I can speed up and catch the guy. We'll get his picture dammit. After some cat like driving reflexes and maybe 2 near misses we luck out and hit a red stop light allowing us to park right along side Santa. So I tell Chloe,"TAKE IT!! Get a good one!" The camera starts going nuts again and won't let her take the picture.

Defeated yet again, we finally give up and drive home.

Upon inspection of my camera, I find out that the batteries were nearly dead and that there was only enough juice to view things on the little screen. In the excitement, we didn't see the little red battery that was flashing on the screen. So now my theory that Santa is really the walking dead starts to get tons of holes in it.(hellllooo, it was noon for gosh sake and really sunny out)

Doh!

A Gift to You

How about an early holiday gift. It's a time saver and who couldn't use a bit of that?

I've been using this handy online feature for a while now. It's called Bloglines. It's an online site that lets you view all your "feeds"(in my case blogs) in one place. It lets you know when someone posts so you don't waste your time checking everyone's blog to see if they posted yet. It's a free service and you can just click on that little tag under my weather pixie if you like. It'll take you there and help you get signed up.

Updates Galore

So here are some pictures of the updated projects.

Notice how all the color pooled to the sides and didn't mix much. This is the one thing I don't like about varigated yarn. Troy picked this pattern.

I ran out of the black so decided to do a half and half scarf with some silver I had. Not bad, now what to do with it?

I, my friend, have class. I am so not white trash. . I am more than likely Democrat, and my place is neat, and there is a good chance I may never drink wine from a box.

Bah-Humbug!

Is the holiday season getting you down?
Would you rather take a European vacation?
How about Paris?

I've been taking reality brakes at this blog.

A day in Paris

So grab a cup of coffee and a croisant and read the archives and current posts as well.

Bon Voyage!

How cool is this?!

The speakers we have for our computer pretty much suck. They're small and not very powerful. I looked around for better speakers but the thing is, I don't have a lot of $ to spend on some "nice" ones. Now that we have cable internet, we can listen to really cool radio stations all over the world. Yes, world! We've been having tons of fun doing this.

Our local stations are well....local. The culture in this area leaves much to be desired. So where am I going with this? I was wishing that we could some how hook our computer to our stereo system. If anyone knew if this could happen, it would be the good ol' radio shack. I did a little browsing online and voila! For $5.99 you can buy a cord that will attach to your stereo via an auxiliary output. It's like hooking up your cd component to your receiver. **Note:don't expect the folks at the actual store to know what you're talking about. Take the part number with you.

The reason this works for us is because our stereo is literally right next to our computer. (hmmm...now I wonder if this is a good thing since the speaker is like 2 feet away from our computer) Anyhow, it works like a charm and now I'm not a slave to the local beat.

WOO HOO!!!

Buy Nothing Christmas!!!

So there.

The Project Bus is Rollin' On

Well, I finished my awesome scarf already for this weekend. They will go great with the new Dansko shoes I bought off ebay (note to self, never bid out of spite).

I know, no scarf shot yet...but hey, here are my cute new shoes and the yarn before I knit the scarf up.

The shoes are really great and I got to buy "REAL" socks for them instead of heavy sports type socks which is all I own besides the one great pair of hand knit ones I kept instead of giving away. Until they stretch out I need the thin socks.

The next project I'm working on is the Red Hat Society scarf for my grandmother. We're doing Christmas at her house this Sunday so I need to get it done a.s.a.p.. I'm nearly half done so it should be finished during tonight's knitting session.

The kids and I also made paper chains for the dining room ceiling. It was tons of fun but I'll let them post pictures on their sites.

A Really Bad Case of....Startitis!

Now that the mad rush of Christmas is coming, I've decided to play mind games with myself. How do I do this you might be wondering?

I decide to start at least 9 knitting projects at one time!!!

On the bright side, I did finish the scarf that I was contracted to do:

(thanks to Rhiannon Johanson for modeling)

That done, I decided that I need a scarf for Troy's company Christmas Party. Last year, I did start a black fun fur type scarf (for decoration only people...not warmth). I decide to finish it finally. Right now of course because I have ALL the time in the world(she says as she cries while kntting it) The only problem is that EVERYONE has one now days, it doesn't feel all that special anymore. That's one project half finished(if your keeping count). Solution: Buy New Yarn for Cooler Hip Holiday Scarf(will have picture in a different post...and oh yeah, I started this one about half an hour ago)

There is also a really cool aran watch cap pattern on the knitty website under their supplemental section of free patterns. Got yarn for that today while shopping with my mom. She actually bought it for me...WOOT nothing like a little free yarn for the holidays(drooling over pattern but haven't started yet...just give me a minute though)

My grandmother is part of the Red Hat Society. For Christmas I thought I'd knit her up a boa/scarf of sorts in their colors.(have't started this one yet, still need some purple fuzzy yarn)

Then of course there is the spinning I need to do for Troy's socks that I eventually want to finish.

While shopping with my mom at a craft store(different day from the watch cap yarn day), I spied this cool color combo.

I could use some new swingin' kitchen hotpads. And hey, it was on sale for 1.25 a ball! Can't beat that. I've started on one hot pad and it's really hard to knit. Your holding 3 strands at once so that it knits up extra thick otherwise, you got it...OUCH this thing is #@$*(^ hot!(this is a started project)

I knit this really cool bookmark for my book group lady for the holidays. It actually went really fast(started and finished during the movie Ed Wood) Great movie by the way and they have it at our local library for free...in case you wanted to know. (started then finished this one)

So lets see the score board:

planned: 9
started: 5
finished: 2

Let the project torture test begin...
