Your Crib or Mine?

Mary Ellen (aka The Good Life) has gotten me hooked on Cribbage. You know that strange game that your grandparents play. Come to find out, it's really fun. And I also found out, my basic math skills pretty much suck. It's sad when your playing a game in front of your friends, trying to be all smart and stuff, and you are convinced 8 + 6 is 15. I even counted it on my fingers!!!

Thank goodness Mary Ellen is patient and kind and gently reminded me that it's actually 14. My secret weapon is Jackie. She is a cribbage shark. If it wasn't for her, I'm sure I'd still be at the park going, "Uhhhh.....wah.....hmmmmm".

So, of course I had to teach Troy. And I won our first game together. He swears I cheated some how since we're both not savvy on all the rules (and there are a ton I tell ya). What he doesn't know is that I made sure we played using my new Betty Page pin-up playing cards he got me for my birthday.

Distraction is a girl's best friend.

What a Knob!

As part of the currently scheduled programing, I bring you new spring knobs for my sad television armoire.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Even though the "wheat theme" of the old knobs has never, ever, ever matched my so called decorating "theme", I haven't changed them since I bought the armoire over 12 years ago. Sad to admit, I know. It just never was a priority.
For the last, I don't know, 5 years, they've been mocking me every time I use them to open the doors to watch television.
Well, no longer! They currently don't reside in my house any longer. They aren't even in this town anymore. Yes, I hated them that much. I sent them with my Mom to visit my sister in Wenatchee. She was having a yard sale and I sold them to some lucky wheat lovin' family.

Take that you offensive knobs!

Painting for Fun and Pleasure

I had a before picture of this chair but the computer ate it. I'm not sure where it is and after wasting about 10 minutes searching for it, I gave up.

Imagine it dingy and dirty with a dark brown courderoy seat. I bought it at Goodwill for $4. It was really icky.

And now...

A few coats of Hi-Gloss black paint and look how much better it looks!(well you could if I had found the before picture...DOH!)
(Chloe picked out the fabric for the seat)

Another yard sale purchase was this very impractical 2 inch figurine

I do love this poodle, she's quiet and fits in my purse.

I think I'll call her Fi Fi.

I've always liked the idea of having a poodle but not the actuality of having a poodle. They're really not cute in real life. They get this weird weeping brown eye goop that turns their fur around their eyes gross. I'm sure there are a lot of people who groom their dogs so they won't get it but, I've seen it more than I haven't. Plus, poodles are yippers and who can respect a dog that doesn't have a healthy bark?

What kind of bark is respectable to you?

Planning Vacation

This year's family vacation will be.....

Ocean Vacation!!!

As some of you remember from last year, I got really sick on vacation and we had to hurry home only two days into it. This year, armed with Lysol and Clorox disinfecting wipes, we're going to try it again.

We'll being staying at the same place and just veggin' out.

"But, Bohemian Mama, don't you feel like you're tempting fate?! You could end up with Ben Affleck disease again." (you might be yelling at your monitor right now)

It might seem like a tempt of fate but in reality, it's a virtual "bird flippin'" at the whole past experience. Kind of like if you fall off your bike, you should get right back on or you might never ride your bike again.(unless the gas prices keep rising, then you'll be riding a your kid's BMX if it'll save you some sweet moolah)

Speaking of gas prices, HOLY CRAP! I just filled up my puny little 12 gallon Suzuki Wagon gas tank and it cost $28. Ok, ok, I know, it's not like what they pay in Europe or anywhere else in the world, but it still sucks. We feel that as a responsible family of 4 that drives a very economic car that gets excellent gas mileage (30 mpg in town thank-you very much), maybe we should get a brake on the gas prices. I know, I know, our reward is that it only costs us $28 for a tank of gas.. Blah-di-blah-blah-blah

A girl can dream can't she.

No Knitting News

Spring is here, my face is puffy-runny-& red, it must be time to slack on all responsibility and
SPRING CLEAN!!!
WOO HOO!!

Nothing like a bit of sun shining through the windows to realize what a PIT my house has become. The dust where I live is really horrible. I've given up dusting because I would have to do it twice a day.(yes, it's really that bad) Not to mention, we have a dog and a cat who both shed like they're trying to clone themselves.

I've also noticed that my walls are disgusting beyond belief. I mean come on, how in the world did little footprints reach so freakin' high? The tallest one is only a bit over 5' tall and I sure as hell know I haven't had my feet that high since....well, it's been a while. Then, there are all the dings and knicks and mysterious what the ???? all over. So, this spring is the spring we plan on painting.

The huge problem is making color choices. Everything is white and if I'm going to paint, I want some color, baby. And, I want to make one absolute and final decision. There's nothing like redoing a job 2 or 3 times to put you out of the mood for painting the rest of the house.

One decision I have made is my room first.

Now to pick a theme....

Flicks

Some new Oscar winners we've watched in the last few weeks are:
The Grand Hotel-1931 A
The Lost Weekend-1945 B
All about Eve-1950 A-
An American in Paris-1951 B (musical)
On the Waterfront-1954 A++++
Gigi-1958 B+ (musical)
The Apartment-1960 B
Midnight Cowboy-1969 B
Annie Hall-1977 A-

As you can tell by the ratings, On the Waterfront is the big winner so far. Read the Amazon review here. While watching this movie, I couldn't help but notice how current actors copy what has already been done. I never realized how much of a Brando Brad Pitt was until this movie.

What I've learned so far is I'm not really a musical kinda gal. I just want to yell, "Get on with the freakin' story already!!". Now don't get me wrong, my favorite movie as a child was Grease so I'm not totally musical adverse. I'm amazed at how many musicals won for best picture. I mean come on, that'll never happen again ....oh wait....Chicago....DOH!

New Baby News

My brother and sil finally had their baby. Meet Ella Grace:

She is so cute. Of course I've only spent maybe 20 minutes with her total but I can tell she's a keeper.

And meet her jacket:

It's made from Lion Brand Cotton Ease. The pattern is from Domestic Sphere. I've used this pattern before for my nephew and my sil loved it so much, she wanted one like it.

Hey, who am I to complain, it's all garter stitch.

I'm Back

Sorry it's taken me a while to post.

I've been recovering and I've also been feeling like a hermit.

The surgery went really well. It was done lathroscopically so I had 4 incisions which means 14 staples. I've never had staples before. They were pretty sore to have in. I had them removed last Thursday and since then, it seems my healing progressed very quickly.

I think the surgery part was the best part. It's the recovery that was a bitch. I'm saying this of course having never had surgery before. I'm sure others would be much worse. Like a knee for instance, woo doggies, that would really suck.

I'm back to eating real food and I'm noticing that I'm not feeling sick after I eat. Not only was I having acute attacks, but I didn't realize how nauseous I was after eating until now that the gall bladder is gone. I was living off peppermint patties to settle my stomach all the time. (of course all of this was done on a subconscious level) Since my surgery, I'm not craving peppermint patties at all.

My birthday was really mellow. I had dinner at my parents house and had to miss book group. It was ok though, I was still feeling kinda *ick* at the time and that night was the first time I had eaten "real" food since my surgery.

I also didn't go tonight, didn't read the book. I had all these plans of listening to books on tape while recovering. The problem was, I'd take a pain pill then pass out while listening. It just didn't work.

I did get to watch a few movies from the list. Look for posts in the next few day.

Thanks to everyone for their well wishes!
