It's not something you see everyday.

I've got my pictures up. If you click on the photo to the right it will take you to flickr. Then, select Ocean Vacation and it will let you do a slide show. I do have comments on some of them and you'll have to look at them individually to view those.

Enjoy!

Vacation, where the livin' is good...

We're back from vacation!

We had an excellent time. I have tons of pictures to share but right now, laundry is calling.

No, Ben Affleck disease this year, that's a +. We just hung out and explored the ocean in all it's glory. The only thing that we didn't get was a beautiful sunset. There was a cloud bank just on the horizon every night so we missed the beauty of a pacific coast sunset. The weather was, as the locals called it, freakishly nice. Lots of sun with little wind, this is nearly unheard of this time of year.

Stay tuned for pictures galore.

To The Beach!

We are going to the coast tomorrow and won't be back until Friday. As you can see, I've posted a few things. If you come back every day, it'll feel like I'm posting daily. (-:

I'll take plenty of picture, I promise.

Have a nice week!

I've also been working on Sitcom Chic. It's great when your visiting with someone because it's so boring to knit. I'm excited to get to the sleeves, then I get to mix it up a bit.

I will finish this sweater....

See! I'm working on it! It's actually going faster than I thought it would. They're really flying. I have about 11 inches of that oatmeal color before I start on the pattern again. I'm taking it to the beach this week to get it finished.

Woo Hoo!

Don't try this at home kids...

I got to have my niece over this week and thought I'd try her new sock on to see how long it needs to be. (Don't worry, she was sleeping, as only a 2mo old can, in the middle of the afternoon.)

It looks like I'm going to have to start over and make it bigger. She's got some hooves on her.

I'll probably finish these for another baby who'll be able to fit them in the fall.

Jazz Baby!

Last night we went to a free concert at a local park.

And it was Jazz, Baby!

For those of you who don't know, I'm a jazz freak. I mostly like the old stuff (pre-1980's). The concert had a mix of stuff. They did play one of my favorites though, A night in Tunisia. It was magicool. I was lucky to be behind the band when they played so I got to hear it right with out all the amplification. My mind swirled back to the days when a band like this would play in a lounge or hall. That must have been the absolute best. hmmmmm

We missed some of our "regulars" who show up at the concerts. M'ellen and Stephanie were really busy and couldn't make it. Elane was camping it up somewhere. Ali came sans Dave but did bring Nelson (who is the cutest kitty-boy you ever saw). Ali even brought snacks and goodies to share.(She's such a swell gal, I'm so glad to have met her)

The evening ended with a standing 'O' and they played a great break-neck piece that left you wanting more.

I need more Jazz in my life...

Rebecca-1940

Yes, I've been watching a lot of movies lately. Of course I've been doing a lot of knitting and might as well do two things at once right?

This movie was pretty good. It's a Hitchcock film produced by O. Selznick. It's spooky in a way only Hitchcock can be.

From the Box:
A young woman believes her every wish comes true when her whirlwind romance with the dashing Mr. Maxim de Winter ends in marriage. But she soon realizes that Rebecca, the late first Mrs. de Winter haunts both the temperamental, brooding Maxim and the de Winter mansion, Manderley.

Of course I love the spooky Ms. Danvers. She's like a female Bela Lugosi.

This movies rates a solid B. No knits to be found anywhere but it is Hitchcock and he's wonderful.

The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Muuuuuussssiiiiiccc!

Well, believe it or not, I've never seen The Sound Of Music. Shocking I know.

This weekend me and the DH decided to brave the 3 hour epic and watch it. Mind you, I'm not a big musical fan as stated in previous posts, this movie was AWESOME!!!

The music added to the plot and wasn't distracting. It moved along at a great pace and the story was great. We ended up splitting up the movie over two nights and Troy made me promise to not finish it until he got home the following evening.

The beauty of Strasbourg is amazing. I recently watched a travel show about it and it's still as pristine as it was in the movie. I was shocked to learn though that many people who live there don't know the movie or the plight of the Von Trappe family.

I give this movie an A. Knitted garments would have given it an A+

I'm using it as my "mindless" knitting project while I'm not working on the sleeve for the Norwegian Sweater from Hel.

We should take bets as to when I'll actually get this thing finished.
Anyone?

Cinderella Man

As predicted, I went and saw this movie yesterday with my mother, grandmother, and daughter. My mom LOVES going to movies and I'm very fortunate that she loves to invite me along (and pays for me as well, I might add).

I really expected to not like this movie. It had a ton of negatives:
1) Stars Russell Crowe
2) It's about Boxing
3) Our local movie reviewer gave it a lack luster review
4) I didn't know anything about the story

Boy was I surprised when I really enjoyed it. Russell Crowe was almost likeable. And, I must admit, I'm a sucker for a period film. The movie is about James J. Braddock, a boxer who was doing very well before the Great Depression and them bottoms out when the stock market crashed and the banks bailed on people. So, in my opinion, it's a great look inside the disparity of that time. And yes, there was boxing. It wasn't so bad and actually had be on the edge of my seat.

Another super surprise about this movie, the knitted clothing. There were quite a few knitted vintage looking pieces for many of the characters. (and you can tell they were hand knit, I mean this in a good way).

I wouldn't tell people they HAVE to see this in the theater, it was good, but not really worth all the $dough$ to see it in the theater unless you are taking your "depression era" grandfather as a way to spend some time together. (Troy is going today(-: )

I would give this movie a solid A-. It would get a B other than the inclusion of knits makes it an A in my book.

I'm thinking some sort of long table would work. Right now, as you can see, it's sitting on top of a folding table. It's a sturdy table but it makes me nervous everytime one of the kids bumps it. All these years wishing and dreaming about flat screen monitors and now within 6mos we have two. We are so lucky my brother likes to upgrade a lot.

A Beautiful Mind

This week we watched A Beautiful Mind. This movie won for best picture in 2001. It's about the mathematical genius John Nash and his struggle with mental illness. It was actually a great picture but still not sure if I would say "Best Picture". There was a lot of "talk" about Russell Crow getting slighted for best actor category for this film. He was ok, but not spectacular.

This being said, I must come clean with my dislike for Russell Crowe. He was great in Gladiator, but that has been the last thing I've seen him in that I liked. He seems to have a very strong off screen character that is unappealing to me and biases me towards his acting work. (check out his itunes playlist Yes, he lists some of his own recordings.) Of course, I will be going to see the new movie Cinderella Man so I haven't totally given up hope.
